Rooftop Solar for Home

How Solar Works for Your Home

A home rooftop solar system turns your roof into a small power plant. During the day your home runs on solar power, and any extra is exported to the grid through a net meter. At night you draw from the grid, and the units you exported are set off against what you import.

Most homes need 2–5 kW. Bhanu sizes the system from your past bills and your roof, installs DCR panels so you qualify for the subsidy, and files the DISCOM and subsidy applications on your behalf.

Typical system size

2 – 5 kW

About 1 kW for every 120 units you use a month.

What we check

  • Shade-free roof area of about 100 sq. ft. per kW
  • Sanctioned load at least equal to the system size
  • Electricity connection in the owner’s name for the subsidy
  • Roof strength for the mounting structure (we check this on the survey)

Benefits

Why Go Solar for Your Home

  • Up to ₹78,000 subsidy

Eligible homes get up to ₹78,000 central subsidy under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana — ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third.

  • Lower monthly bills

A correctly sized system can bring your bill down to the DISCOM’s fixed charges.

  • 25 years of power

Panels carry a 25-year performance warranty, so you keep saving long after the system has paid for itself.

  • Higher property value

A home with its own power supply and lower running costs is more attractive to buyers and tenants.

FAQ

Solar for Home: Questions

How much does home solar installation cost?

A complete on-grid home system typically costs ₹1.75 lakh – ₹2.1 lakh for 3 kW before subsidy, or about ₹97,000 – ₹1.32 lakh after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy. See the solar panel price page for every size.

How long does home solar installation take?

Installation on the roof usually takes 1–3 days. The full process including DISCOM approval, net-meter installation and commissioning typically takes a few weeks, depending on your DISCOM.

Will solar work during a power cut?

A standard on-grid system shuts off during a power cut for the safety of line workers. If you want backup, a hybrid system with batteries keeps essential loads running.

Do I need to maintain the panels?

Just rinse them with plain water every couple of weeks to remove dust. Bhanu provides after-sales service and monitoring support.
